Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

93 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in having a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny admitted to the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7, who is in need of heart treatment and who was advised some weeks ago that he would be called shortly. [14562/96]

Limerick East): I understand from the Mater Hospital that the person in question was admitted to the hospital under the care of a cardiologist on 28 May 1996 and discharged on 7 June 1996.

Ceist:

94 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health if he will have arrangements made for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to be called for an operation in view of the fact that she has been on a waiting list since February 1996. [14563/96]

Limerick East): I understand from the South-Eastern Health Board that the person in question was placed on a waiting list for surgery at St. Luke's Hospital in February 1996 and the hospital is unable to give an exact date of admission at this time. The scheduling of surgery is a matter for the clinical judgment of the consultant concerned, is based solely on the patient's condition and not on the length of time on the waiting list. Emergency cases are given priority.
