267 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the current status of the working party on day-care for children; and the name and location of all day-care projects funded by schemes operated through his Department. [15896/96]
There is no working party on day-care for children operating under the aegis of my Department. In 1994, however, I initiated a pilot childcare initiative which continues to operate. I introduced this initiative for the purpose of providing support for, and to facilitate, a limited number of innovative projects for the setting up, on a pilot basis, of childcare measures utilising the skills of suitably trained local people so as to enable local residents to avail of education, training, retraining and employment opportunities which they might otherwise be unable to undertake in the absence of a childcare facility. The initiative is targeted at designated disadvantaged areas and is to assist with start-up capital costs only.
The initiative is administered, on behalf of my Department, by Area Development Management Ltd., which is an independent company designated by the Government and the European Commission to support integrated local economic and social development in cooperation with relevant Area Partnership companies established by the Government in designated disadvantaged areas.
The name and location of all the projects which are being funded under the initiative are set out in tabular statement which I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.
