Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Cork School Staffing.

Joe Walsh

Ceist:

511 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has for the provision of a second teacher at a school (details supplied) in County Cork in view of the fact that it now has the required number of pupils. [15688/96]

As the Deputy is aware, the staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of the school in question on 30 September 1995 was 25 pupils. This enrolment warrants the staffing of principal only. The school also have the services of a shared remedial teacher.

A minimum enrolment of 28 pupils is required in order for a school to qualify for the appointment of its first assistant teacher.
