557 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Justice the number of committal applications made to the courts in 1995 in respect of debt; and the number of persons committed to prison in 1995 on foot of committal warrants issued in respect of debt. [14950/96]
The number of committal orders made for debt (including those for family law business) was 9,919 in the legal year from 1 August 1994 to 31 July 1995. There are no statistics available for the number of committal applications made in respect of debt.
I refer the Deputy to my reply of 27 June 1996 to a parliamentary question at page 1911 in relation to the number of persons committed to prison in 1995 on foot of committal warrants issued in respect of debt.
