631 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice the number of applications made to the District Court for a barring order by spouses in each of the legal years commencing 1 August 1985 to 31 July 1986, up to and including the legal year commencing 1 August 1995 to 31 July 1996; and the number of barring orders granted in each of these years by the District Court. [15679/96]
The statistics sought by the Deputy in so far as they are available are as follows. The statistics in respect of the year 1995-96 will be compiled when the legal year ends on 31 July 1996 and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as they become available.

632 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice the number of applications made to the District Court by co-habitees, parents and others for barring orders and/or safety orders from the date of commencement of the Domestic Violence Act, 1996 up to 31 July 1996; and the type and number of orders made in respect of co-habitees, parents and others. [15680/96]
The Domestic Violence Act, 1996 came into operation on 27 March 1996. The statistics sought by the Deputy will be compiled after the end of the legal year which ends on 31 July 1996. I will arrange for them to be forwarded to him as soon as possible.
