682 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Justice the amount of grant aid which has been given at national level to the Community Alert Organisation; the way in which this grant was allocated to local community alert groups throughout the country; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I am making £50,000 available this year to Muintir na Tíre to provide it with the resources to significantly expand the number of community alert schemes in operation. The grant will be used to employ a number of development officers on a regional basis to promote and develop the scheme.
