Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pension Rights of Former Workers.

Noel Davern

Ceist:

696 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Social Welfare the current position regarding the pension rights for former workers of Irish Tanneries at their former plants at Carrick-on-Suir, Dungarvan and Portlaw, County Waterford; the conditions attached to such pension rights; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15630/96]

I assume the Deputy is referring to Irish Leathers Ltd., and the two pension schemes which commenced on September 1975 and April 1977. Following the liquidation of Irish Leathers in July 1985, the schemes were concurrently paid up.

As far as I am aware, court proceedings were taken but a settlement was reached without the matter going into court. I understand negotiations are taking place at present between representatives of the parties involved and it is hoped a settlement will be arrived at soon.
