11 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Health the number of residential drug-free therapeutic treatment places available in each of the health board areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16972/96]

Limerick East): The number of residential drug-free therapeutic places available in each of the health boards is as follows:

Eastern Health Board:

Southern Health Board: The board provides an out-patient drug free therapeutic treatment programme for both adults and juveniles at Arbour House, Douglas Road, Cork. In addition, the following voluntary organisations, each of which receives a section 65 grant from the board, provide detoxification treatment and rehabilitation to persons with alcohol and drug-related problems.

Mid-Western Health Board: Treatment, detoxification and rehabilitation for persons with alcohol and drug related problems are provided at Cuan Mhuire, Bruree, County Limerick. The centre has 52 beds, 50 per cent of which are used by patients for Cork and Kerry.
There are no residential drug-free facilities operated by the following health boards — the North Eastern, North Western, Western, Midland and South Eastern Health Boards. The demand for treatment of this type in these health boards is minimal and, where it arises, is provided generally in psychiatric hospitals.
