Vol. 469 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medical Card Eligibility.

Joe Walsh

Ceist:

43 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Health the arrangements, if any, in place to extend medical card cover for three years to persons who go from unemployment assistance, to employment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12947/96]

Limerick East): Under the Health Act, 1970, determination of medical card eligibility is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. Arrangements to enable persons who have been unemployed for at least one year to retain their medical cards for three years after entering employment, as announced in the budget, have been finalised with the executive officers. This measure is effective from the date of the budget.
