Vol. 469 No. 2

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

58 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the locations to which civil servants will be invited to move in respect of each Department which will be involved in the decentralisation programme; the number of civil servants it is intended to move to each location; the method by which the civil servants will be selected for decentralisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17090/96]

Details of the ongoing decentralisation programme including the Departments involved, the locations to which civil servants will move, the proposed number of staff in each case and the present position are provided in the following schedule.

All posts at designated locations under the Government's decentralisation programme are filled on a voluntary basis in the first instance. Volunteers are sought initially from within the decentralising Department and subsequently, if insufficient numbers are forthcoming, from elsewhere within the Civil Service on the basis of a "head for head" swap. Posts remaining unfilled after this procedure are filled by way of confined competition within the Civil Service.
