Vol. 469 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Managers' Salaries.

Peadar Clohessy

Ceist:

86 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the reports in the Irish Medical Times regarding the salary of the new Chief Executive Officer of Tallaght Hospital; whether, in addition to the official salary of £50,464, the remuneration package includes payments of £7,500 each from the three constituent hospitals and Trinity College, Dublin; if his attention has further been drawn to any other hospital managers who have similar arrangements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17136/96]

Limerick East): My Department has approved a salary level of £50,484 for the chief executive officer post in a number of major hospitals, including the new hospital to be opened in Tallaght. This represents the total salary payable from public funds for the post of chief executive officer as advertised and filled following public competition. The question of any supplement payable to the successful candidate by any, or all of the bodies referred to by the Deputy from their private funds in respect of any additional duties or functions to be performed on their behalf would be a matter for these bodies and the person concerned. The same policy applies in relation to any similar arrangements in other similar hospitals.
