Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Presidency.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

229 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Defence the total cost to date and the total estimated final cost of the hiring of an air taxi service for use by EU Ministers during Ireland's Presidency of the EU; and the total cost to date and the total estimated final cost of using of the Government jet during Ireland's Presidency of the EU. [17536/96]

The cost of the air taxi service from 1 July 1996 to 30 September 1996 is estimated at £256,000. The direct cost, which includes maintenance, fuel and support services, of the Government jet in the same period is estimated at £255,000.

It is not possible at this stage to estimate the costs of using the air taxi service and the Government jet during the remainder of Ireland's Presidency of the EU as such costs are directly related to the number of flying hours involved.
