Vol. 469 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Tom Kitt — the progress made by the Minister for Enterprise and Employment during his visit to the United States in relation to finding a purchaser for the Semperit plant in Ballyfermot, Dublin; (2) Deputy Ring — the reason for the removal of a school bus service from students attending Louisburgh secondary school, County Mayo; (3) Deputy Broughan — the urgent need to take all necessary steps, including the removal of subsidies and the use of non-European Union crews, to prevent the closure of the Irish Continental Group's sea route from Rosslare to France and the consequential loss of up to 400 jobs on the north side of Dublin and in Wexford; (4) Deputy Briscoe — the need to re-establish good relations between the Garda Síochána and the community in Dublin's inner city to combat the drugs problem; (5) Deputy Kenneally — the dramatic rise in the price of home heating oil over the past two months; (6) Deputy Eric Byrne — the need to establish a special task force to tackle long-term unemployment in the north and south inner city areas of Dublin; (7) Deputy Lynch — the urgent need to review the poundage system of remunerating sheriffs; (8) Deputy Joe Walsh — the need to provide the promised extension to Clonakilty boys' national school in County Cork in order to alleviate severe accommodation problems; (9) Deputy Noel Ahern — the casualisation of permanent jobs by private and State employers; (10) Deputies Kirk and O'Hanlon — the need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, to reinstate immediately the dairy hygiene grant scheme until the ongoing investment programme on farms is complete.

The matters raised by Deputies Joe Walsh, Kenneally, Noel Ahern and Kirk and O'Hanlon have been selected for discussion.
