Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - Transport Tenders.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

175 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of transport companies invited to tender for the provision of transport services during EU ministerial visits and meetings; the name of each company; whether bus, taxi, hackney or limousine service companies were employed to provide such services, which did not have to go through a tender procedure; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17983/96]

I hosted an informal Council meeting of EU Ministers for Social Protection on 10-11 July last. The transport services used in relation to this ministerial meeting included a limousine and car service and a coach service.

The following companies were asked to tender for these transport services; Murray's Car Rental, Breslin's Car Hire, Stafford's Car Hire Service, The Limousine Company, Bus Éireann, Eirebus Ltd.

The contract for limousine and car hire was awarded to Breslin Car Hire and the contract for coach hire was awarded to Bus Éireann. Of the replies received these were the lowest priced.

In addition, where the need arose, taxi services were used. These were provided by the taxi firm with whom my Department has an account i.e. National Radio Cabs.
