Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - On-the-Spot Fines.

John O'Donoghue

Ceist:

39 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for the Environment whether he intends to introduce on-the-spot fines for minor traffic offences; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12882/96]

On-the-spot fines already apply to parking offences and to the offences of non-display of a current tax disc, non-display of an insurance disc, and the overloading of a vehicle.

Proposals to apply on-the-spot fines to speeding offences are currently being finalised by my Department, in consultation with the Department of Justice and the Gardaí, and I will make the appropriate regulations later this month. There are no proposals to extend the system to any other traffic offences.
