Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Housing Aid.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Ceist:

42 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for the Environment whether he intends providing further funds in 1996 to the Western Health Board under the scheme of housing aid for the elderly, in view of the large number of applications and the lack of funding to carry out necessary house improvements for old people; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16424/96]

James Leonard

Ceist:

123 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide additional funding to the North-Eastern Health Board under the housing aid for the elderly scheme in view of the fact that demand is high and the backlog of applications which has necessitated discontinuance of new applications. [16218/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 42 and 123 together.

The total allocation for the special housing aid for the elderly scheme has been maintained at a high level — £4 million in 1996. Second round allocations for the year will shortly be notified to health boards by the task force which administers the scheme under the aegis of my Department.
