the number of transport companies invited to tender for the provision of transport services during EU Ministerial visits and meetings; the name of each company; whether bus, taxi, hackney or limousine service companies were employed to provide such services, which did not have to go through a tender procedure; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A total of 22 companies were invited to tender for the transport contracts for the visit by the European Commission to Dublin on 1 and 2 July 1996, the informal meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs in Tralee on 7 and 8 September 1996 and the European Council which will be held in Dublin on 13 and 14 December 1996.
My Department also organised transport for the Intergovernmental Conference Personal Representatives meeting in Cork on 5 to 7 July as well as for the visits by Coreper 1 Ambassadors to Cork, Waterford, Tipperary and Kilkenny on 12 to 15 September and Coreper 2 Ambassadors to Kerry on 19 to 22 September.
Contracts for the provision of transport for all these meetings were awarded in accordance with Government tendering procedures. The names of the companies concerned are listed at Annex 1.
In the case of the special meeting of the European Council on 5 October for which my Department organised the transport, it was not possible in the time available to repeat the tendering procedure. The transport contract was accordingly awarded to the company which had already secured the contract for the European Council scheduled for 13 and 14 December 1996.
