86 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Justice her views on whether there should be censorship of the Internet services. [18441/96]
I would refer the Deputy to my replies to Question No. 572 on 25 July 1996 from Deputy Trevor Sargent as stated in the Official Report, Volume 468, No. 4, at columns 1830 to 1831 and Question No. 516 on 25 September 1996 from Deputy Frances Fitzgerald as stated in the Official Report, Volume 469, No. 1, column 361.
As mentioned in my reply to Deputy Fitzgerald, among the options I am currently examining is that of self-regulation by the Irish service providers. In this regard, a preliminary meeting has already taken place between representatives of the Irish service providers and officials of my Department. A number of measures to improve the situation in the short-term are being examined and further consultation on these matters will take place shortly.
