Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dundalk-Newry Motorway.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

150 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if he will intercede in order to ensure that the motorway between Newry and Dundalk is progressed as expeditiously as possible in view of the joint campaign between the National Safety Council and the Department of the Environment in Northern Ireland regarding road safety; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19236/96]

As stated in the reply to Question No. 334 of 25 September, the agreed consultancy study of options in relation to the Dundalk-Newry route is under way and a final report is expected before the end of the year. This study, and the joint seat belt advertising campaign which was launched on 14 October, are indicative of the high level of ongoing contact and co-operation between the authorities here and those in Northern Ireland in relation to a variety of roads matters.
