Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ministerial Staff.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

255 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the cost of salaries and incidental expenses of all programme managers, special advisors and other non-established contract staff in his Department for each of the years from 1994 to date in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19168/96]

The salary and other pay-related costs of the programme manager, special advisers and other non-established staff totalled £43,395, £227,686 and £225,871 in 1994, 1995 and 1996 to date respectively. The 1996 figure includes £12,649 paid to two technical evaluators, 75 per cent of which is recoupable from the EU under the Tourism Operational Programme 1994-1999.

As costs such as telephones, office maintenance expenses, office machinery, furniture and so on are charged against broad organisational headings as part of the Department's administrative budget rather than against individual staff members, it is not possible to extract accurate figures for other incidental expenses associated with the activities of staff referred to by the Deputy.
