The annual Labour Force Survey report gives information on persons who classify themselves as unable to work due to permanent sickness or disability and includes classifications by age, gender, marital status and region. Similar information in respect of counties and small areas is compiled from the five-yearly Census of Population. A new quarterly multi-purpose household survey, replacing the annual Labour Force Survey, will begin in June 1997. The survey will include a range of social as well as labour force topics and this may provide the opportunity to occasionally collect more detailed information relating to people with disabilities.
