82 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the State companies, if any, under the aegis of his Department; the number employed in each such company; and the amount of the State contribution in each case. [19330/96]

ACC Bank plc, ICC Bank plc and the national lottery operate under the aegis of my Department.

At 30 September the numbers employed in ACC Bank plc were 565. The bank operates on a commercial basis and the State makes no contribution to its annual operating costs. At 31 December 1995 the nominal value of the State's shareholding in the bank was £30.448 million. In July 1996 the State injected £5 million of equity into ACC Bank plc to support its expansion and development and this brought the nominal value of the State's shareholding in the bank to £35.448 million. ACC Bank plc paid dividends to the State in respect of its last complete financial year amounting to £2.236 million.

At 30 September the numbers employed in ICC Bank plc were 322. The bank operates on a commercial basis and the State makes no contribution to its annual operating costs. At 31 December, 1995 the nominal value of the State's shareholding in the bank was £11.984 million. ICC Bank plc paid dividends to the State in respect of its last complete financial year amounting to £2.516 million.

At 30 September the numbers employed by the national lottery were 78. The national lottery is a commercial State company to which the State makes no contribution in respect of its annual operating costs.
