Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Drugs Project.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

87 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health if he has received a submission from Cherry Orchard Help Against Drugs, Dublin 10, for a community-based drugs project; if so, his response to such a submission; and if he will give details of the funding available for the project. [19002/96]

Limerick East): I have not received a submission from Cherry Orchard Help Against Drugs, Dublin 10, to which the Deputy refers. However, I understand that a submission from this group has been received by the Eastern Health Board.

I am informed that the group proposes a community based advice, information, counselling and referral service for drug users, their families and those affected by drugs. I further understand that, at the last steering committee meeting of the group on 8 October the committee reviewed its submission for funding and decided to write to organisations such as FÁS, the Department of Social Welfare, Combat Poverty Agency, the area partnership, Comhairle le Leas Óige and the Eastern Health Board and to approach their local representatives to request information on European funding that may be available to them.

The revised submission was to include a request to meet the various organisations to discuss their needs in more detail. The Eastern Health Board has not received this revised submission as of 21 October. The board has informed me that when the revised submission has been received the matter will receive urgent consideration.
