Ahern asked the Minister for Health the cost of salaries and incidental expenses of all programme managers, special advisers and other non-established contract staff in his Department for each of the years from 1994 to date in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Limerick East): The information requested by the Deputy is set out below. I should explain that under the previous Government, one Minister of State was assigned to the Department of Health and to the Department of Justice. For administrative reasons, the full costs of the Minister of State and associated staff were met by the Department of Justice. In December 1994 this Government appointed two Ministers of State to the Department. The full cost of these Ministers of State and their associated staff are now met by the Department of Health. The increased costs in 1995 and 1996 are attributable to this.
