To date payments have been made under the dairy hygiene scheme to 1,111 applicants who completed approved works to my Department's specification and submitted the necessary documentation.

Ceist:23 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total cost of set aside payments in the first nine months of 1996; if he has satisfied himself with the extent to which set aside land is used for the production of non-food crops; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The estimated amount paid under set aside in the period January-September 1996 is £200,000. On the matter of the extent to which set aside land is used for the production of non-food crops, I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 288 on this topic on 15 October 1996.
