Vol. 470 No. 6

Written Answers. - Blackpool (Cork) Flats Complex.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

54 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide the necessary funding for the demolition of the blocks of flats in Blackpool, Cork, and the provision of new houses on that site. [19625/96]

Approval has been given to Cork Corporation's proposals to engage in consultations with the tenants of the three blocks located north of the Glen Hall with a view to the flats being vacated and the corporation drawing up, in the light of the discussions, detailed proposals for the future of these flats. The proposals made by the local authority envisaged that they would explore different possibilities in relation to the future of the flats, including their demolition or their sale for a suitable private sector development. Funding will be provided for the provision of any replacement housing required. The corporation is also to develop a strategy in relation to the other three blocks situated on the city side nearer to Blackpool village.

The local authority's further proposals are awaited. In this regard, I understand it has arranged for consultants to prepare a plan for the whole area.
