Vol. 470 No. 6

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Micheál Martin

Ceist:

62 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she will consider awarding a grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork to enable her to pursue a post-graduate course in UCC during the academic year 1996/1997. [19617/96]

It is understood from Cork County Council, the body statutorily entrusted with administering the higher education grants scheme in this case, that the student in question falls to be considered under the terms of the 1992 higher education grants scheme.

It was a requirement of the 1992 higher education grants scheme that for grant purposes a candidate must have reached a certain academic level in the leaving certificate examination of that year.

Cork County Council have informed my Department that the student referred to by the Deputy did not meet such requirements in her leaving certificate and is therefore ineligible for a grant.
