Vol. 471 No. 1

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Deasy — the need to formulate a policy to assist owners of thatched commercial premises to enable them to retain or replace existing structures because of their heritage and cultural values; (2) Deputy de Valera — the plans, if any, the Minister for Justice has for changes in the Censorship of Films Acts; (3) Deputy Lynch — the need to introduce a "clean slate" mechanism after a specified period of time for those previously convicted of a minor offence; (4) Deputy Ned O'Keeffe — the failure of the Minister for Education to address the problems at Gaelscoil Tomás Dáibhís, Mallow, County Cork; (5) Deputy O'Dea — the need for the Government to take action to control insurance costs, particularly in view of the recently announced increase in premiums; (6) Deputy Lawlor — the urgent need to provide a computer teacher to St. Philip's national schools in Mountview, Dublin 15, in order to assist the school authorities in equipping local schools for employment opportunities in computer based industries in view of the importance of this sector to the economy of the area; (7) Deputy Martin — the need for the Minister for Education to intervene in the dispute between the Teachers' Union of Ireland and her Department concerning the pay and conditions of Youthreach personnel in order to avoid industrial action in Youthreach centres throughout the country; (8) Deputy Sargent — the concentration of the resources of the Department of the Environment on relatively non-hazardous packaging waste in view of the fact that regulations have not yet been made under sections 6(2), 32(2), 57 and 58 of the Waste Management Act, 1996, which deals with chemical and other hazardous waste; (9) Deputy Callely — the deteriorating situation in Scoil Fhursa and Scoil Íde, Cromcastle Green, Kilmore West, Dublin 5, the findings and recommendations of the recent Departmental inspection; and the timescale governing the works.

The matters raised by Deputies Ned O'Keeffe, Lawlor, Martin and O'Dea have been selected for discussion.
