170 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education the amount paid by each local authority for higher education grants in respect of the 1995-96 and 1996-97 academic years; and the dates on which these payments were made to each local authority. [20281/96]
Recoupment to the local authorities is made in arrears in respect of their expenditure in the previous financial year. It is not possible, therefore, to supply the information in the manner requested by the Deputy. However, the table below sets out the recoupment in 1996 in respect of the 1995 financial year. In general recoupment in the following year is made to local authorities within two weeks of receipt of certified claims from the authorities.
