Vol. 471 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Tax Allowance.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

30 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the year the tax allowance for children was abolished; the level of the allowance at that stage; the level the allowance would currently be if index linked since it was abolished; and the estimated annual cost of the allowance at current year values. [20120/96]

The child tax allowance was abolished in 1986. The allowance was £100 at the time it was abolished. It would currently stand at £130.50 if it were index linked since it was abolished. It is estimated that a child tax allowance of this amount would cost about £30 million in the current year.
