Vol. 471 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Staff.

Noel Davern

Ceist:

123 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in the appointment of a consultant paediatrician to St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel, County Tipperary; if his attention has been drawn to the urgency of such an appointment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20249/96]

Limerick East): The management of health services, including the employment of staff, is a matter, in the first instance, for each health agency.

Approval for the filling of a new post of consultant paediatrician at St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel was issued by the Department to the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board on 14 May 1996 subject to approval by Comhairle na nOspidéal.

I understand that Comhairle na nOspidéal has not yet made a decision on the application pending the receipt of supplementary information but that it has undertaken to consider the application at its next meeting on 22 November 1996.
