Vol. 471 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sexual Misconduct Allegations.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

94 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Health the number of complaints of sexual misconduct against doctors currently before the Medical Council; if he will give a breakdown of whether non-consultant hospital doctors, consultants or general practitioners are involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20632/96]

Limerick East): The Medical Council is an independent statutory body established by the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978. As Minister for Health, I have no role or function in relation to complaints alleging unfitness to practise.

I have been informed by the Medical Council that its Fitness to Practise Committee has been advised that no information may be given unless or until an inquiry has been held and a decision of professional misconduct or unfitness to practise has been made.
