66 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a decision will be taken in relation to grants for the development of artificial breeding techniques in equines under the operational programme for agriculture rural development and forestry, 1994-99; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Applications under this scheme are being evaluated by an expert working group set up within my Department. A detailed set of criteria is being drawn up to facilitate the objective assessment of the applications. In the course of examining the applications it may be necessary for my officials to arrange meetings with the applicants in order to clarify aspects of individual applications.
I hope that the applicants will be informed before the end of the year as to which projects will be supported under this measure.
