Vol. 471 No. 4

Written Answers - Third Level Application.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

167 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education if her Department will carry out a thorough investigation into the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny, who applied for a place in UCD through the CAO, but who was refused by the college due to the fact that part C of the bank giro was not received by the CAO by the closing date, in spite of the fact that the applicant had proof of postage. [20787/96]

The Central Applications Office, CAO, is a private company limited by guarantee — non-profit making — which processes applications centrally on behalf of participating institutions. My Department does not have any function in relation to the arrangements operated by the CAO and the third level institutions for the processing of applications. The person referred to should pursue the matter directly with the institution in question and the CAO.
