Vol. 471 No. 4

Written Answers - School Placement.

Mary O'Rourke

Ceist:

195 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, made in relation to the provision of second level education for a student (details supplied) in County Westmeath. [21036/96]

As I outlined to the Deputy in my replies of 26 September and 17 October 1996, the selection and enrolment of pupils in secondary schools is, in the first instance, the responsibility of individual schools. My Department is endeavouring, by a process of consultation with school management, to have the pupil in question placed in a school in his locality. These efforts, which by their nature can take some time, are ongoing in this case and every effort is being made to find an appropriate placement.
