Limerick East): The World Health Organisation in conjunction with the International Radiation Protection Association established internationally recognised guidelines in 1988 for limiting exposures to radio-frequency electro-magnetic fields. Operators of mobile phone systems here must conform to these guidelines. The guidlines were re-examined by the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection this year who stated that there is no substantive evidence that adverse health effects can occur in people exposed to levels of non-ionising radiation at or below the established guidelines. According to measurements made here by Forbairt at a number of locations the highest exposure levels in the vicinity of telecommunications towers are about 1,000 times lower than the WHO/IRPA levels.
