Vol. 471 No. 5

Written Answers. - Student Accommodation.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

55 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for the Environment if he will confer with the Department of Education for the purpose of establishing student association housing, similar to that which operates in Northern Ireland. [21125/96]

There are differences, such as eligibility for housing benefit, between the position of students here and in Northern Ireland which militate against direct replication of any measures operating there. A considerable amount of student accommodation has been provided here by a number of third level institutions with the help of tax incentives for the provision of private rented accommodation. My Department will confer with the Department of Education about the issue of student accommodation generally.
