Vol. 471 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

John Ellis

Ceist:

79 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the number of wildlife officers employed by his Department in counties Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan and Longford. [21373/96]

There are a total of nine wildlife management staff employed by my Department who cover the counties of Cavan, Leitrim, Longford and Sligo.

John Ellis

Ceist:

90 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the consultations, if any, he has had with Coillte regarding its policy in respect of granting permits; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact it is granting permits for shooting in forests where sitka spruce are over 15 metres and carry no game birds. [21392/96]

Coillte Teoranta is charged with managing public forests and related activities on a commercial basis. As the leasing-letting of lands by it for shooting is a commercial activity, my Department, through the National Parks and Wildlife Service, is not involved in such transactions.
