Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Alarm Calls.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

308 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the number of responses to alarm calls by the Garda Síochána in the Dublin metropolitan area during the month of October 1995; the comparative figures for this period in 1996; and the percentage of false alarm calls; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21966/96]

Garda computerised records show that of the 10,387 alarm activations responded to by the Garda in the DMA in October 1995, 80 per cent of them were false. The comparative figures for 1996 were 11,714 alarm activations of which 79 per cent were false.

The Garda Síochána policy is that after receipt of four false calls in any rolling six month period, the occupant of the premises is warned by written notice that Garda response will be withdrawn in the event of the number of false calls exceeding six. If the number of false calls exceeds six during this period, a written notice is served on the occupant that the Garda will no longer respond to alarm activations from that premises.
