Vol. 471 No. 8

Written Answers. - Day Care Centres.

Noel Davern

Ceist:

68 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Health if a separate submission for the approval of the inclusion of a day centre service in Cashel, County Tipperary, as part of the overall hospital services development for south Tipperary has been received in his Department from the South-Eastern Health Board; if so, if he will give favourable consideration to the provision of this facility in view of the fact that a site is available in Cashel; when he will make a final decision in respect of this application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22349/96]

Limerick East): The provision of day care centres in south Tipperary is, in the first instance, a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board. While the board recognises the need for day care services in Cashel, they must first take into account their overall capital priorities and the availability of resources.

The board informs me that it has endeavoured to support the Cashel Parish Council in its efforts over the years regarding the provision of day services. At present the board has agreed to examine the physical lay-out of St. Patrick's, Cashel, with a view to determining whether a day care centre can be incorporated. If this proves possible, I expect to receive a submission from the board outlining their proposals for such a project.
