Micheál Martin

Ceist:

156 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Health the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that the Irish Friends of the Suicide Bereaved based in Cork will receive annual funding from his Department to cover annual administrative and service costs. [22723/96]

Limerick East): The Southern Health Board is responsible for the delivery of health services including support for bereavement counselling services in Cork.

I understand that the board has provided the Irish Friends of the Suicide Bereaved with accommodation for use as an office and drop-in centre, together with the expert advice of professionals working in the board's mental health service. I also understand that a sum of £1,000 was allocated to the group from the board's allocation of national lottery funds in 1995 and that an application for similar funding in the current year is under active consideration by the board. In the light of existing arrangements in place, I do not feel that it is necessary for my Department to provide direct funding to the Irish Friends of the Suicide Bereaved.
