136 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, there are to extend the youthreach programme and the vocational training opportunities scheme in 1997; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25079/96]

Provision was made in 1996 to extend Youthreach by 450 places and the vocational training opportunity scheme by 1,000 places. The question of further expansion of these programmes in 1997 will be examined with other demands in the context of the budget.
