Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

385 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education when funding will be made available for the development of three new classrooms to replace the existing prefabricated classrooms at a school (details supplied) in County Cork which are not suitable for the schools needs; and in view of the length of time this matter has been ongoing; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1684/97]

I included an extension at the school to which the Deputy refers in my Department's 1996 list of primary school projects for planning.

This project is at an early stage of architectural planning. When the planning works has been completed, a decision on the timing of the tender process will be made in light of capital funds available. At this early stage I am not in a position to give a firm timescale for the works.

Liam Hyland

Ceist:

386 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Education when she will issue permission to Laois vocational education committee to invite tenders for the agreed provision of a two room extension to St. Fergal's College, Rathdowney, County Laois; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1685/97]

Architectural planning of the proposed extension is proceeding, and the combined stage four and five (detail design contract documents) documentation is currently being examined by my Department's technical staff. When the detail design contract document is approved, the question of inviting tenders for this extension will be considered.

The question of allowing the project to proceed to construction will be considered in the context of the capital allocation for post-primary building purposes in 1997.
