Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

448 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the reason the Garda has failed to respond to requests from residents to prevent open drug dealing at a location (details supplied) in Dublin 10. [1588/97]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they have received one complaint by telephone from an anonymous source about drug dealing outside the location referred to. The local drugs unit investigated this complaint but no evidence was found of drug dealing outside this location.

Since the commencement of Operation Dóchas on 7 October 1996, five gardaí have been assigned to this area. Under the provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1997, a number of houses have been searched in the area and the gardaí have made seizures with a street value of £10,980. A number of arrests have also been made in connection with the seizures.

The gardaí will continue to give appropriate attention to this area.
