Vol. 474 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

60 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the Government guidelines for appointments to State boards; the consultations which take place with the chairman of State boards prior to appointment of board members; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2472/97]

Appointments as directors of State companies, other than worker directors, are made either by Government on the recommendation of the Minister with responsibility for the company concerned or directly by the relevant Minister, in many cases with the consent of the Minister for Finance. The primary considerations in selecting appointees are relevant experience, expertise and ability to contribute to the performance of the company. The process of determining the suitability of candidates is a matter for the Minister concerned.
