Traffic management policy for the Phoenix Park is set out in the Phoenix Park Management Plan. New measures have been introduced over the past number of years with a view to improving traffic management in the park including the closure of some roads to through traffic, the introduction of a new roundabout and the reduction of the speed limit. These measures have been successful in significantly reducing the number of traffic accidents in the park.
Traffic management policy is kept under continuous review and all measures likely to enhance the safety of park users will be given due consideration.
The introduction of pedestrian crossings with zebra markings and flashing beacons in the park is not generally favoured. However, the installation of appropriate railings on both footpaths near the Castleknock Gates, which would have a break in the rails to encourage pedestrians to cross at a fixed position, is being considered.
