276 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence when a new comprehensive Defence Bill, arising from the reorganisation of the Defence Forces, will be presented to the Houses of the Oireachtas to give a statutory effect to the office of the Chief of Staff and two deputy chiefs of staff. [3456/97]

Proposals to amend the Defence Act, 1954, to give effect to certain recommendations of the efficiency audit group report on the Defence Forces are at present under consideration. It is anticipated that the heads of the Bill will be submitted to Government for approval shortly.
