Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael P. Kitt

Ceist:

195 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education if she will provide more buses for school transport for a school (details supplied) in County Galway. [4610/97]

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

224 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education if she will direct the replacement of school buses for a school (details supplied) in County Galway; the date on which this will be done; the arrangements to be made for the new buses; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4471/97]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 195 and 224 together.

Two buses servicing the school in question have been replaced within the past year. Another replacement vehicle will be introduced on this route within the next week or so. To ensure that school transport vehicles are fully utilised in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, each vehicle is generally required to operate a number of services.

The service to which the Deputies refer operates on a first-in, first-home service, and the travelling and waiting times are within my Department's guidelines. Accordingly, I am satisfied with the arrangements in this instance.
