65 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Education the timescale for the establishment of the sports council on a statutory basis; the remuneration to be offered to council appointees; its relationship with other sports bodies; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5175/97]
The establishment of the sports council on a statutory basis was recommended in the report of the sport strategy group which was launched on 18 February 1997.
The Government has approved in principle the establishment of the sports council on a statutory basis and the necessary arrangements for the drafting of the legislation are now being put in place in my Department.
It is not possible at this early stage to indicate a timescale or the terms and conditions which will be applied.
