Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries Funding.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

166 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Marine the total funding which will be provided in 1997 for the development of inland fisheries; the projects which will be assisted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7325/97]

The total funding provided for inland fisheries in 1997 is £16.07 million of which £9.67 million goes towards financing the operations of the Central and Regional Fisheries Boards and the Irish Exchequer's contribution to the deficit of the Foyle Fisheries Commission. A sum of £1.268 million has been provided towards proposed expenditure by the fisheries boards and the Foyle Fisheries Commission on salmon protection equipment and related running costs.

£4.57 million has been allocated towards expenditure on projects approved under the tourism angling measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism and a further £406,000 is being provided towards fisheries projects approved under the INTERREG programme. A list of the projects approved under TAM to date in 1997 will be forwarded to the Deputy.
